Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has apparently refused a move to Anfield as part of a deal for Raheem Sterling. City are desperate to sign the young Englishman to help fulfill their quota of homegrown talent and were hoping to use the Bosnian as a makeweight, but according to reports in the UK he is having none of it
The reds are seemingly desperate to increase their fire power after the sale of Luis Suarez and the long term injury of Daniel Sturridge left them floundering in the Premier League last season. They have already signed England U21 international Danny Ings from Burnley but boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to sign a big name to help ease the fears of the Kop.
It seems Dzeko is unwilling to make the move just an hour away from his current employers as he insists being in the Champions League next season. That means he will also reject interest from Everton as he holds out for a possible move to Arsenal who could make a surprise bid for his services. If that move fails to materialise it seems Dzeko would prefer to warm the Ethiad bench than play for Liverpool.
Reds fans shouldn’t be too upset by this one though as the 29 year old only put up Mario Balotelli like figures last season scoring just six times in 31 appearances.
Despite the appearance that Dzeko is past his best the news that he rejected a move to Liverpool still underlines exactly how hard Rodgers and Co are going to find it in the transfer market this summer. They have big plans as always but are continually finding that the old pull and mystique of Anfield is waning, as players prefer moves to the nations capital or simply chase big money at Manchester City.
Rodgers has to find some sort of spark though or he will be out by Christmas to be replaced by the Jurgen Klopp, Jamie Carragher dream team.
