There have been no big name clubs on Liverpool’s pre season fixture list leaving many people to believe they will not be ready for the start of the season. Club legend, Mark Lawrenson, has warned that the Merseyside giants will be, ‘undercooked’ after battling against Adelaide Utd, Helsinki and a Malaysian XI while their title rivals have pitted wits against Barcelona and Real Madrid
But despite the seemingly lack of any challenge to their build up Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers, says he isn’t concerned, and that his troops will be ready when they travel to Stoke for the EPL opener on the 8th of August.
"I was pleased," Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com after watching Coutinho and Divovk Origi dispatch of the Finnish champions. "We were better in the second half than the first. We tried to look at something in the first half.
"But our fluency was really good in the second half and obviously we scored a couple of really good goals. I'm pleased - another good workout for us in the last of our pre-season games abroad.
"In terms of everything that the players have been through - all the travel around the world - they are in good condition.
"We still have another week's good work to do, but we'll really focus in on that and come Stoke, we'll be ready."
Liverpool have one remaining fixture against lowly Swindon Town before starting their domestic campaign next week. It will give big money signings Firminio and Christian Benteke the chance to make their long awaited debut for the club. But for a team under pressure and with a difficult start to the season ahead there must be some nervous people within the walls of Anfield. Last season was one they would rather forget. As they look to shake off the cob webs and once again for top honours going into the new season off the pace could prove to be disastrous.
